![]() ![]() We’re also committed to our members, our community and clean energy. Upon the 12:00 o’clock billing, if your credit balance depletes, you will be notified by text or email that you will need to make a payment.Ĭontact us at (800)342-0134 to discuss if this is the right option for you, or if you are ready, apply for a new service. As a member-owned cooperative our service to you goes beyond providing reliable, affordable electricity. Your meter is read every day and at 12:00 noon, you are billed for the power that was used in the previous 24 hours. Unlike a postpaid account, you will not receive a bill every month because we bill you for your power use daily. The remaining $50.00 will be applied as a credit towards the account. Of this $105.00, there is a $5.00 (refundable membership fee), $35.00 (refundable deposit), and a $15.00 (nonrefundable account establishment fee). To start a prepaid account, there is a total charge of $105 required from the member. You can also be notified of all payments, late notices, ongoing balance, high daily energy use, and many other available alerts via text and/or email. We pay out capital credits in two ways, either by having a general retirement, or at the time of a member’s passing. This allocation is what we call capital credits, or patronage capital. If your balance falls below that amount, we will alert you if you choose to sign up for the alerts and reminders. Each year, the earnings collected in excess of the cost of providing service, are allocated to CEMC’s members. At the time you enroll, you will have the ability to select a balance threshold (as low as $1.00 but not recommended). You choose the amount you want to pay, and the method and frequency of your payments. The board and management will continue to look for opportunities to reduce costs where possible. With Canoochee EMC Prepay accounts, your electric energy use is calculated on a daily basis and is deducted from your prefunded account, which is similar to a prepaid phone card. The Canoochee Board of Directors and management understand that our members face challenges with high inflation driving up the cost of almost everything we purchase. This will be a $9/month or $108/year increase. The increase for 2023, based on the same kWh usage, will increase to $158/month. The average residential bill for Canoochee members totaled $149/month in 2022, approximately 6.3% below Georgia Power’s residential customer bill. Due to the higher-than-expected energy forecast, Canoochee regrettably must make a power cost adjustment which increases the average residential monthly bill by 5.8% beginning in 2023. The expected power cost projections for 2023 are higher than originally forecasted but are not expected to be as high as the actual costs we saw in 2022. This increase in cost led Canoochee to have a slight increase in power cost to our members in August 2022, but the increase was not sufficient to offset the higher-than-expected bulk energy costs. By rounding up their bill to the next dollar, thousands of Canoochee EMC members have helped contribute over 1 million since we first began the program in 2001. In 2022 Canoochee’s power cost rose 6% from the original forecasted amount. Remember the unusually high gas and diesel prices that we all experienced early this year? Energy prices across the board were higher. Increased costs have been driven by supply and demand issues. ![]() Utilities across the nation have seen unprecedented increases in power cost during 2022.
